Jeffrey Kaplan: What is it Like to be a Bat? - the hard problem of consciousness
A philosophy professor walks through Thomas Nagel's 1974 paper the way a good seminar would. He explains what 'there is something it is like' means, and why a physical science built on the objective point of view seems to move further from the subjective phenomenon it set out to explain. He also shows why dualism doesn't escape the problem either. This is the clearest half-hour route into the hard problem.
