toldinstone: The War That Ended the Ancient World
by Garrett Ryan
Garrett Ryan, a PhD in Greek and Roman history, tells the story of the generation-long war between Rome and Sasanian Persia in the early seventh century — Khosrow II's conquests, the siege of Constantinople, the battle of Nineveh — and makes the case that this, more than any date in the West, is where the ancient world ended. Fourteen tight minutes from a channel that never trades accuracy for drama.
About this channel
This channel explores the history, monuments, and legacies of Ancient Greece and Rome. I'm Garrett Ryan. I have a PhD in Greek and Roman history, and I've taught at a few universities. These days, however, I spend my time writing, leading tours, and occasionally even making videos. If you enjoy my channel, check out my books! My favorite is "Naked Statues, Fat Gladiators, and War Elephants." I have two other YouTube channels: Scenic Routes to the Past (historical travel) and Toldinstone Footnotes (podcast and commentary). Visit toldinstone.com to learn more about my guided tours, and feel free to email questions or comments to toldinstone@gmail.com. Thanks for watching!
